Mum on ‘Whatsapp’

When I went to India in December for sister’s wedding, I gave my spare iphone4 to my Mum so that she can keep in touch with me & sister via Whatsapp. I tried to explain her how to use it but she was too busy at that time with wedding preparations going on. After the wedding, slowly she learned how to use whatsapp and now she has become pro in using it. Really. Few months back, we made a group of three of us & Dad and I am so glad that we made this group. We are able to connect with each other, share our food pictures, shopping pictures, pictures of new outfits we wear, new footwear we buy and everything that is happening around us. This has made me feel more close to my family. If I miss them I just prepare good food & share picture, they sometimes send me pictures when they are just sitting in front of TV πŸ™‚

I am so glad that Mum learned & got used to with new technology to be in touch with her daughters. She now sends us pictures of new recipes and new food presentation ideas. She asks me what I am going to prepare for dinner & I usually reply her with the veggies & ingredients that I have at home. She gives me list of dishes I can prepare within no time, with detailed recipes and makes my life so much easy. She is helping me in whichever way she can even though she is miles away. Ohh & then sister comes online & adds her food ideas too.. Ohh it is so much fun. Look at the pictures that Mum shared with us last week.. Rice stuffed egg omelet, steamed sandwiches with Italian veggies & mayo, Singaporean Vermicelli Noodles, Burger with tandoori veggies (Instead of burger patty), Paneer Angara with Laccha Paratha and low fat ice-cream which she prepared without milk & cream, I don’t know how. I have never even heard of some of these dishes names forget about the recipes!! Even before I try these recipes she comes up with new recipes and pictures, tell me how do I match up???

Delicious Mom-made food

Whenever she is shopping she sends us pictures of few options asking which one we want and she buys that for us. Here is one picture she sent on ‘whatsapp’ when she was at some Kashmiri Fair, asking me & sister which one we like, isn’t she the cutest Mum ever?? Guess which one I asked her to buy for me?? πŸ˜›

Footwear at Kashmiri Fair

The other day she met my college friend in physiotherapy clinic & this friend works in the clinic itself. It was night time here in Australia, she knew I was sleeping still she sent me at least 15 messages on ‘whatsapp’ telling me – she met my friend, the friend was missing me, friend wants to talk with me, she sent me friend’s number and even her picture and so on.. Thanks to ‘Do not disturb’ mode on phone otherwise I would have surely woken up from my sleep. Next day she told me “I knew you were sleeping but you read the messages first thing in the morning no??? ” lol

I am same like her, If I have to share something with someone I cannot wait, I don’t have patience, I just have to get it out of my system. No wonder PK says Mum is a “Full Version” and I am her “Half version” lol

    Yummy Food Pics !
And yes, Whatsapp is just amazing. We have a large family group on Whataspp ,and because the older generation have learnt how to use it, this has become a great medium to keep in touch. Same group also exists on Facebook, but the frequency of posts was less since Aunties/Uncles would hardly log on. Now, everybody is up to date!

I think Facebook did the smart thing by buying Whatsapp ! Only hope they don’t mess around with the app !

You know, first thing I am going to do after going to India in August is to get mom a smart phone and install whatsapp. I am a tech junkie, yet, it is a hard for me to convince my parents to use smart phones. Last time, I gave mom a kindle, she is an avid reader, however, she loves her news papers and magazines with their fresh smell :), what do you do with them??

  7. Deepa says:

The second picture, is that bread roll? Looks delicious, I think, you asked for the one in the extreme left (colorful designs), right?

That’s so nice right to have our loved ones in touch with us. When I first landed in US somewhere in 90’s things were so different just to call my home it was so difficult buy a phone card lines would never be clear, now the technology has improved so much, whenever I’m using these new inventions secretly in my heart I keep thanking these inventors. Whatsapp is really boon to us. Enjoy TPPL..

  12. I keep looking and re-looking at the food pictures. Your mom is a master-chef. Why ain’t you guys in food business already?. She is just amazing.

And my guess is you would have chosen the black/golden mojdi kinds (the middle one). Though all of them look beautiful.

whats app is my favorite. It has connected me to not only my family 24*7 but also with my cousins and relatives. I have this group with my sisters and bro and we share all kinds of (lame) things which we might not have had this app not been there.
Your Mom is awesome, yaar. So creative πŸ™‚
